Planning a Sparkler Sendoff

If you’ve been dreaming of a sparkler send off to bring your wedding day to a close but aren’t sure how to make it a reality, then look no further! Here are my top three suggestions for a smooth and memorable sparkler send off:

Timing

An official exit as you head to the car at the end of the night might be your initial idea, but I’ve found that guests leave throughout the reception so there are often only a few people remaining at the end of the night. Also keep in mind that your photographer will likely not be there until the very end of the night either - after a long and fun day, most photographers leave shortly after the dance begins and they’ve gotten some great shots of everyone out on the dance floor! Consider a sparkler ENTRANCE to your reception - or a sparkler entrance to your first dance! Both of these options allow for maximum guest participation, with the added benefit of it not yet being pitch black outside - trust me, your photographer will thank you. :) I have also seen couples request a “fake” exit after first dances; keep in mind it can be more difficult to get guests back on the dance floor after they’ve started to enjoy themselves and were interrupted, but if you’re confident in your crew, go for it!

Supplies

Not surprisingly, you’ll need sparklers…and LOTS of them! Look for the longer varieties so they don’t burn out before everyone is able to get theirs lit. I would also recommend bringing several lighters so that you aren’t waiting on a single to make it to all of your guests!

People

Whether you have a wedding coordinator or ask a few trusted friends to help out, assign someone (or several someones) the task of getting guests lined up, handing out the sparklers, and lighting them! It will take all the stress off of you, so you can take in the moment and just enjoy.
