3 Things I Would Change About My Wedding
Fall is one of my favorite times of the year! That crisp, clean air and the crunch of leaves under my feet just makes me want to put on a cozy vest and go out exploring. Fall is, understandably, a popular time of year for weddings and other photo sessions - so things can get pretty busy around here.
This week, I wanted to slow down for a few minutes and think back on my own wedding; if I went back in time, what would I do differently? Don’t get me wrong - our wedding really was everything I dreamed and more! But having been part of so many incredible weddings as a photographer, here are a few things that would have been a better fit for us:
No favors
Invite fewer guests
Spend more time on the dance floor
We struggled to choose what favors to offer our guests, and found that over half were left behind at the end of the night. Giving favors is a nice idea, but for us…it wasn’t worth it.
My husband and I both have fairly large families and feel blessed to be close to many of our more extended relatives. It seemed a natural decision that we include them all - plus our friends - in our wedding day. When all was said and done, we wound up with over 250 guests in attendance! Kevin and I spent the majority of the evening separately making rounds to talk with each person who had come to celebrate with us. That meant we barely saw each other during our reception, and where’s the fun in that?
Even with our extensive guest list, I wish I would have spent more time out on the dance floor. I was so worried about making sure our guests had a good time that I wound up forgetting to be sure that I enjoyed myself too! Looking back, I would have been nice to loosen up and let myself live in the moment.
Now I’m a little older - and hopefully a little wiser too. I got to marry my favorite person, and that's the most important thing. :) And yes, these are all pictures from our wedding - taken by our wonderful photographer Karla with Frese Frame Photography! I love looking back at all the special moments she captured for us.
