Summer Wedding in Medford, Wisconsin

Betsy + Andrew

It was so much fun for me to photograph Betsy and Andrew’s wedding; not only was it back in my hometown, but I went to high school with the bride so I was excited to help make her day the best ever! Even though we grew up in a fairly small town, I’m always pleasantly surprised by the new photo locations I’m introduced to by my clients - in this case, we were able to make use of the bride’s parents’ beautiful property for both detail photos in them morning and then again for portraits later in the day!

I was amazed at how calm Betsy was the entire day, but I believe it’s true when they say that when you find the right person, you just KNOW…and she had found her person in Andrew!  She got ready with her family and bridesmaids at church, and the guys arrived later with plenty of time to spare. Soon the guests started to arrive; every other pew was roped off to encourage social distancing, but I quite liked it because it allowed us to better see how many people had turned out to celebrate Andrew and Betsy for the day since they weren’t all squished together in the center of church!

We were able to stick to our schedule like clockwork because every moving piece of the day was so well-coordinated from start to finish - the bride is an expert planner and I give her all the credit for everything running so smoothly all day long! Family photos and a few shots of the bride and groom in church were quickly completed, which meant it was time to board the party bus to head out for some more fun! Air conditioning on the bus was a welcome respite from the summer heat, and it made my heart happy to see Andrew and Betsy get to sit together and enjoy a little time on their own amidst the craziness of everything going on around them.

There isn’t a way to describe their wedding party without using words like “epic” or “ridiculously amazing” because they were SUCH a blast to hang out with and kept the laughs flowing during photos! They were up to try anything, which is always fun for a photographer - I try to remind people that poses might feel a little awkward but not to worry about it because they can look really awesome on the other side of the camera, plus it means we often see more genuine laughs and reactions in photos which is the BEST!

After completely rocking their winter engagement session, it was no surprise that Betsy and Andrew were total naturals for portraits, and we tried to make use of as many different spots around the farm as we could - especially if it meant we could stay out of the sun on such a warm summer day. I loved that the barn had a cozy porch swing and that they had set aside some champagne for celebratory toasts - so fun! We also lucked out with a few moments during the reception to utilize golden hour lighting, nearby fields and wildflowers, and to give the bride and groom another quiet break to soak in as much about the day as they could before returning to the dance.

I truly didn’t want the day to end. The love these two share for each other was absolutely incredible to witness, and I will never tire of telling them how lucky I felt to be a small part of their wedding!
