Staying True to Yourself while Wedding Planning
Unpopular opinion: planning a wedding is intimidating. Okay, “unpopular” may not be the right word, but when you announce you’re engaged I guarantee you’ll be met with a flood of excited questions about your plans! I’d be shocked if many people acknowledge that it can be, at times, challenging and overwhelming.
And don’t get me wrong - it IS exciting! Whether you’ve been mentally planning your wedding for years or if you’re just getting started, staying organized is key. I’m a big fan of checklists and fun binders brimming with your favorite ideas. Take it just one day at a time, one task at a time.
In case you need to hear it, I hereby give you permission to make your wedding whatever you want it to be! It doesn’t need to fit a cookie-cutter mold and you don’t have to follow the suggestions that all of your aunts will inevitably volunteer without being asked.
What it should do is make YOU happy.
If that means having food trucks for dinner instead of a catered, sit-down meal, do it.
If that means a ceremony next to the creek on the land where you plan to build your forever home, do it.
If that means asking your grandmother to be your flower girl, do it.
The day is about you and your partner, and what brings the two of you joy. If you’re not sure where to begin, think about your favorite memories together: dates you’ve been on, places you’ve traveled, and activities you’ve tried. For instance, a close friend of mine and her now husband loved to visit breweries, so they incorporated growlers from all of their favorites into their reception centerpieces.
Happy planning - don’t let the stress get you down. :)
