Dollar Dance Alternatives

Kevin requested we do a dollar dance at our wedding - if you’re not familiar with the term, the wedding party collects money from guests so they can dance with one of the newlyweds. Not only does it round up a little spare cash for the couple to put towards a honeymoon or other future plans, but the real benefit is that it gives you time to chat with your dance partners one-on-one for a little while during a day that FLIES by. Well, in our case, when the night was over we realized we had completely forgotten about it…oops.

Dollar dance not for you (but you’re better than we are at remembering what you have planned for the night)? Here are a few alternate options to consider:

Photo Booth with the Happy Couple

Ask your wedding party to stand guard to collect $$ outside your photo booth and give your guests the opportunity to snap some pictures with you! What’s more fun than props, the wedding couple, and a photo booth - all with an epic song or two from your DJ to amp things up? Seriously, count me in.

Honeymoon Fund

Set up a honeymoon fund at your reception! This can be a nice option for those guests who don’t care to have much attention drawn to themselves but wish to support your dreams.

Battle Between Teams

If you’re like my husband and me and live in a house divided - at least during NFL season - get a hat for each of your favorite teams to battle it out among your guests! If your favorite teams are at the collegiate level, have your DJ play their fight songs while your wedding party carries the hats around the reception to collect cash and see who will “win”!

Note: well-meaning friends or relatives may suggest that you set up a competition collection and whoever has more money in their container gets cake smashed in their face. With the time, energy, and effort that has gone into making your day a beautiful one to remember (not to mention the exquisite makeup that your bride has likely paid to have professionally done), I would strongly advise against following that advice. ;)
